Alberto Gomes (PhD, ANU) is an Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. His early anthropological research has focused on the Indigenous community known locally as Orang Asli in Malaysia or Aboriginal peoples. Since 2008, he has run the annual intensive master’s course on sustainability, ecological regeneration, and peace ecology at Universitad Jaume 1 in Spain. Inspired by his appreciation of peacefulness and ecological wisdom of Orang Asli cultures, Alberto initiated the Dialogue, Empathic Engagement and Peace building (DEEP) forum. DEEP is a global community of scholar-activists, and change makers focusing on peace building and ecological regenerative projects. Alberto has coordinated DEEP since its formation. He actively lectures online and presents for a numbers of universities and through a variety of institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Australia and overseas.
